about
Vajranala is an exercise in understanding the root of the power (knowledge) discussed in their 2021 release Alkisah. When it comes to ‘power’, says Senyawa vocalist Rully Shabara, “people will normally think of someone political, but I don’t think that’s the case. The origin of power goes deeper than that.” It’s the shamans, he says, who were the first possessors of power: “If you’re in a village, if you’re considered to have the knowledge to connect people with the realm of the gods, then you will have power before the leader. It’s very fundamental to explore this.”
lyrics
Batarakala sang empu waktu
Turun ke bumi menanti di ambang pintu
Atas titah langit kepada begawan dan pujangga-pujangga
Berwujud widya yang jatuh bagai embun ke tangkai bunga
Lalu terbang sebagai widyadara, widyadari
Kinara, kinari
Batarakala sang empu waktu
Menjadi batu di ambang pintu
Menjaga pusaka dari meskipun dewa sekalipun
Tak akan ada yang luput dari ia yang menelan waktu
Bajra!
Datang, datang
Datanglah manusia
Pulang, pulang
Pulanglah sebagai abu
Lingkaran-lingkaran sirascakra di atas kalpataru
Pindahlah jalan menyusuri sendang
Wahai para pencuri harta
Penghamba tahta
Penjual kepalsuan berita
Pencabut nyawa
Perampas harkat
Pemimpin berwajah dua
Prajurit-prajurit yang tak mau bertanya
Perampok martabat
Penghina wanita
Pahlawan bagi penguasa
Pengancam kebebasan
Pemakan segala
Penyangkal nama-nama tuhan
Pencaci keberanian
Perusak tanah, sungai, dan hutan-hutan
Pembungkam mereka yang bisu
Penyanjung mereka yang membuang ilmu
Pendosa-pendosa
Kita semua
Telanjang sempurna di hadapan Batarakala
Lalu kembali sebagai cahaya
Di atas tanah Vajranala
Batarakala, the sovereign of time
Descends to Earth
awaiting by the threshold fine
By the heavens' command
to the wise and poets grand
In form of knowledge
like dew upon the flower's strand
To soar as celestial beings
nymphs of air and land
Kinara, Kinari, in their radiant band.
Batarakala, the sovereign of time
Turns to stone at the threshold's line
Guarding treasures, even from gods' decree
None shall escape the one who devours time so free.
Bajra!
Come, come,
Come forth, O mortals, to the light
Return, return,
As ashes to the sacred night
Circles of Sirascakra
atop the Kalpataru's height.
Anala!
Change thy path, follow the springs' way
O ye, thieves of fortune, Slaves of the throne's sway
Dealers of false news and lies
Takers of life, stealers of worth's prize
Two-faced leaders, soldiers who shun to inquire
Robbers of dignity, insulters of the fair
Heroes for tyrants, threats to freedom's lair
Consumers of all, deniers of God's names
Mockers of courage, destroyers of lands, rivers, and forests' frames
Silencers of the voiceless, flatterers of the knowledgeless fame
Sinners all
We stand,
Perfectly naked before Batarakala's grand
To return as light anew
Upon the land of Vajranala, pure and true.
